🏆Kamchatka makes history at the Max Awards with Fugit

For the second time, the company has been recognised with the Max Performing Arts Award for Best Street Performance, this time with Fugit, a piece that connects us, moves us and brings us together.

With this award, Kamchàtka becomes the first street theatre company to win the award in this category twice, after receiving it in 2022 for Alter.

Fugit, which premiered at FiraTàrrega 2014 and has been performed more than 60 times around the world, continues to be a collective journey that speaks of exile, hope and humanity. An immersive experience without words that continues to cross borders and touch hearts worldwide.

Thank you to all the people and festivals that have made this journey possible. We feel deeply privileged and motivated to continue creating from the street and for the world.

«This award is also for all the people who, at one time or another, have decided to open their doors to those who flee».

This show’s international tour continues this summer, with performances scheduled for July 24th, 25th and 26th at the Milton Keynes International Festival in the United Kingdom, one of the most renowned street theatre festivals on the British Isles.

🚶‍♀️ Maika Eggericx, Kamchátka actress, in the ‘March to Gaza’

Maika Eggericx, actress and active member of the Kamchàtka street theatre company, embarked on a committed and transformative journey in June by joining the March to Gaza, a global initiative that aims to raise awareness and denounce the situation of the Palestinian people. On this journey, filled with courage and hope, she has had the vital and financial support of the company, which fully supports her decision and shares the call for peace, dignity and justice.

At Kamchàtka, we believe in the power of art to break silences and build bridges. We have symbolically accompanied Maika on this march, convinced that her presence there is also a form of artistic and human expression, faithful to the values that drive us as a collective.

👜 Broken postcards from northern Portugal

And so, we traveled to Portugal. Invited by Comédias do Minho, a theatre association based in Paredes de Coura, we travelled to northern Portugal to carry out a community and cross-border artistic residency. We worked in five different municipalities in the Minho Valley, a territory marked by a history of migration, smuggling and stories of return after a lifetime of work abroad.

This territorial and historical context provided us with the perfect framework to develop an artistic creation that would serve as a tool for reflection on shared memories, cyclical human movements and the connections between past and present. Thus, we were able to co-create a piece that was unusual for us: a physical, poetic and silent short film, inspired by the silent cinema universe of Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. At the same time, we held workshops with groups linked by their experience or sensitivity to migration issues, thus deepening the bond between the community and the project.

The process came to a close in Paredes de Coura with a collective performance, the screening of the film and the musical participation of local choirs. A lively and open day celebrated with the community.

🎭 There are many of us. There will always be more

In recent months we have been working on our fifth creation: Incontinuo. A large-scale, community-based and immersive project that aims to become an unmissable, open and transformative encounter. A piece conceived for public space, designed to be experienced collectively and which seeks to break down physical, social and symbolic boundaries.

‘We are driven by a visceral need to be seen by many people, to reach as many people as possible,’ we explain in an article on the FiraTàrrega blog, entitled We are many, we shall be more and more, written from in the midst of the creation process . Incontinuo is part of the Fira’s 2025 Creation Support programme.

With Incontinuo, we wish to talk about the present without losing the timelessness that defines us. A present marked by rejection and fear of the other, by policies that criminalise migration and dehumanise personal stories. In response to this, we propose a poetic and massive act, a space where empathy is the remedy, where silence becomes a language and where the encounter with the other is transformative.

The creative genesis of this project comes from some of the experiences we have had in recent years and all through 2025 in which we have held workshops, residencies and open rehearsals such as: Liberandum, created for the main stage of the Sziget Festival in Budapest; La Grande Migration, a large-scale action in Hérault (France) and Côte à Côte, in Martigues and Port-de-Bouc (France), which culminated in a large collective ritual of listening, crying and dancing. As previously mentioned, this last June, we participated in a regional project under the Comédias do Minho (Portugal) umbrella and attended the FETA Festival in Gdansk (Poland), where we tested one of the possible scenes for the new project.

The creation will be completed in 2026, but we have already set the wheels in motion!

‘To blow to pieces every definition of border and territory. Movement as a remedy for apathy. Silence as medicine. Empathy as the only weapon.’
